Opportunity Summary
Under supervision, they will conduct the follow:
- Tutor youth ages 5 to 17 in math, language arts, and science;
- Mentor youth in regards to their academics;
- Facilitate simple programs such as hygiene, gardening, math club, arts & crafts, sports, etc.;
- Develop & instruct enrichment activities for youth, including short-term and long-term plans for the class;
- Hold weekly meetings with mentees to monitor their progress and needs;
- Assist staff in creating lesson plans and facilitating activities;
- Assure the safety of children;
Training:
- Club orientation;
- Youth Development web course;
- DCFS child abuse safety course;
Brightside tutoring course; - 1st Aid/CPR training;
- Program coaching courses;
- Weekly mentoring sessions.
Learning Outcomes:
- Facilitate a small group tutoring session;
- Mentor and motivate youth to excel in academics and extracurricular activities;
- Facilitate a turn-key youth program;
- Successfully manage a classroom of 20 children;
- Understand and create a safety plan for a youth organization.
