Opportunity Summary 

Intern assists Exhibit Program Coordinator with overall care and maintenance of exhibitions and exhibition spaces, through daily housekeeping/cleaning of spaces to include dusting, sweeping, cleaning of glass or acrylic covers, and occasional mopping. Duties will also include assistance with changing out or setting lights in the primary gallery, furniture logistics, creating, mounting and hanging labels for exhibitions. Intern may learn Canva as the platform used for creating labels for exhibition. Intern may research, plan, and execute a small exhibition with guidance from the Exhibit Program Coordinator.

Learning Outcomes  

- Discern types and related design concepts for art, anthropological, cultural, and historical exhibitions.
- Manage or maintain an exhibition space for cleanliness and safety.
- Use Canva as a platform for designing/creating exhibition labels.
- Provide basic preparator duties for installation and de-installation of exhibits.

Training  

- Work directly with the intern while they learn Canva.
- Review all labels and written matter working with the Intern for content accuracy and design specifications, and edit together with the intern.
- Provide guidance in researching, planning, and developing an exhibition of the Intern's choice. Or, provide an opportunity for the intern to work from inception to completion of a project.
- Demonstrate techniques used in or during installation and de-installation of library exhibitions.

Tasks/Duties  

- Demonstrating understanding of proper cleaning supplies for different surfaces (glass vs. acrylic) and techniques used for cleaning exhibition spaces.
- Being able to create/design labels of varying sizes and styles in Canva appropriate to the type of exhibition.
- Demonstrate safety standards required for setting/changing lights/fixtures in the Atrium Gallery.
- Recounting the process for creating, planning, developing, and installing an exhibition through an actual assigned project.
- Discuss and/or demonstrate a variety of techniques used for installation or de-installation of an exhibition.
