A course assistant needed for a biopsychology course. Interested students should expect to conduct supervised grading, collaborate on preparing study sessions, attend class sessions when available, assist in answering student questions, and coordinating the class discord channel. The course assistant will never be responsible for any of these independently and will receive feedback from the instructor along with the instructor providing oversight of all activities the course assistant is asked to do.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to do the following. (1) Understand how to implement and revise a grading rubric based on student learning/feedback. (2) Be able to develop and lead group discussions for purposes of learning in the context of Exam review sessions. (3) understand the timing of class instruction time and how activities are broken apart class time. (4) Be able to develop their skillset around inquiry methodology to improve student learning in the classroom.
Training
To help the student achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will (1) regularly meet with the teaching assistant at minimum once a week. (2) Debrief after class sessions to review what worked, what did not, and what questions they have. (3) Review content material with the teaching assistants prior to class during our weekly planning meetings. (4) Provide ongoing feedback throughout the semester. (5) Provide any notes/materials to the teaching assistant and make myself available whenever they have questions.
Tasks/Duties
The intern will demonstrate the learning outcomes by (1) grading assignments first, then instructor will review their grading, adjust scores as needed prior to posting grades and then provide feedback as needed or intern will review instructor comments on student assignments. (2) Intern will take point on developing review sessions with questions and activities meant to facilitate student learning and provide session materials to instructor for review. (3) Intern will review assignments and rubrics prior to grading assignments and bring questions to weekly meetings around what is unclear or how to use grading rubrics on assignments.
