Early Childhood Education InternAt — Clever Endeavors Early Care & Education

Intern will work directly with young children ages 6 weeks to 6 years of age and their families in a school setting. In this academic internship, interns will learn and gain knowledge in the areas of early care and education. This will specifically consist on information regarding: child development; temperament and personality; Title 22 regulations; the importance of play; developmentally appropriate curriculum for ages 6 weeks through 6 years; general understanding of early childhood philosophies and theories; building curriculum; environments; and classroom management skills. If coursework requires it, interns may participate in lesson planning and lead activities.

Interns will receive consistent supervision by a professional who holds a license/credential in the areas in which she is employed. Interns will meet weekly with supervisor to discuss their CSUF course and how the internship applies to what they are learning through their CSUF lectures and coursework.

Interns must submit a statement of good health and a negative TB test from within past 12 months prior to starting.

Intern duties may include: serving snack; preparing art materials and other classroom activities; setting up classroom environment; monitoring and redirecting children indoors and outdoors; assist with ensuring safety of children indoors and outdoors; photocopying; answering questions and engaging in conversations with children; assisting classroom teacher by facilitating small group activities; implementing curriculum as directed by teacher; and meeting weekly with on-site supervisor.

Interns will assist classroom teachers with activities for young children. Interns may be asked to prepare art supplies, collect snack supplies, read to children.

Training:

In the classroom, teachers will assist interns in putting into practice what is being taught in their CSUF classes.

Additionally, students will participate in 1 hour of weekly supervision group discussion with site director to discuss what is being learned in the university classroom and observed in the preschool classrooms.

Learning Outcomes:

Interns will gain practical knowledge of the constructivist theories in a classroom environment.
