Intern Support for Government Resource Program FALL 2024At — County of Orange
Since our department is very diverse in terms of tasks, services provided to clients, resources to assist social worker staff to assist families, intern will be able to learn the inner workings of the many aspects of our agency both as an employee and a student. It will vary from setting up appointments for paternity testing, set up tutoring for children and youth, reporting drug testing results, to coordinating distribution of essential items to needy children and families.
Tasks will vary from setting up appointments for paternity testing, learning how to read juvenile court minute orders, setting up tutoring for children and youth in protective custody, reporting drug testing results of adult clients to assigned social workers and coordinating distribution of essential items to needy children and families. Additional tasks will vary.
Training:
Training will be administered by supervisor and will be hands on; the student will learn as they go. Intern will be given tasks and observed directly. Will also receive worker tools with specific steps.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Learn how to communicate with senior social worker staff and supervisors in terms of providing services to clients both via telephone and email. In addition, will network with community partners to provide external resources to clients.
2. Learn how to navigate through State database known as Child Welfare Services/Case Management System in order to ensure clients met certain eligibility for additional services and /or resources.
3. Observe how social worker staff work together to prevent removal, assist in reunifying families once a child is removed and how the agency assists families who have a child in placement who can no longer return to his/her parents.
