Opportunity Summary
Position Overview:
The City of Chino is seeking a highly motivated and creative Communications/Marketing Intern to join our dynamic team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of local government. The intern will work closely with our Public Information Department to support various initiatives aimed at effectively communicating with residents, promoting city services, and enhancing community engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and execution of communication strategies to promote city programs, events, services, and initiatives.
- Create engaging and informative content for the city's social media platforms, website, newsletters, and other communication channels.
- Assist in the design and production of visual content, including graphics, videos, and promotional materials.
- Monitor local news outlets and online platforms to stay informed about community issues and trends that may impact the city's communication efforts.
- Monitor social media trends, track engagement metrics, and provide recommendations for optimizing online presence.
- Assist in maintaining the city's branding guidelines and ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms.
- Respond to inquiries and comments on social media platforms in a timely and professional manner.
- Provide general administrative support to the Communications Department as needed.
Qualifications:
- Current enrollment at CSUF perusing a bachelor's related to Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of communication and marketing principles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Proficiency in using social media platforms, and basic graphic design tools such as Canva.
- Creativity and the ability to think outside the box when generating content and ideas.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a strong work ethic.
Training:
- Initial General Employer Orientation (Mandatory):
All interns will participate in an orientation session to familiarize themselves with the city's organizational structure, policies, values, and expectations. They will receive an introduction to the Public Information Division's role within the city and its key projects. - Weekly Scheduled One-on-One Mentor Meetings:
Each intern will be assigned a mentor from the Public Information Department who will provide ongoing guidance and support. Weekly one-on-one meetings will be held to discuss progress, address questions, set goals, and provide feedback. - Overview/Contextualization of Assigned Tasks:
Before starting each task or project, interns will receive an overview of its purpose, relevance to the city's goals, and expected outcomes. This will help them understand the bigger picture and contribute more effectively. - Feedback and Performance Review:
A Performance Review will be conducted to discuss strengths, areas for improvement, and progress towards learning goals. These reviews will ensure interns stay on track and receive constructive guidance.
Learning Outcomes:
- By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to: Demonstrate proficiency in creating compelling written and visual content for diverse communication channels, such as social media, newsletters, press releases, and websites.
