Position Overview:
The Student Events and Engagement Intern will play a critical role in assessing the effectiveness and sustainability of programs produced by the ASI Student Events and Engagement Department. This position involves a thorough evaluation of current and past programs to determine their viability over the next five years. Additionally, the intern will research and review leading peer mentorship programs across the country to identify best practices and innovative approaches.

Key Responsibilities:
Program Evaluation:

Review and analyze current ASI student programs and events.
Assess program outcomes, participant feedback, and overall impact.
Develop reports with recommendations for program improvements or modifications to ensure long-term viability.
Research and Analysis:

Conduct comprehensive research on successful peer mentorship programs nationwide.
Analyze methodologies, success factors, and outcomes of top programs.
Summarize findings and present actionable insights for enhancing ASI’s mentorship initiatives.
Collaboration:

Work closely with the Student Events and Engagement team to gather data and insights.
Assist in the development of strategic plans based on research findings.
Documentation and Reporting:

Prepare detailed reports and presentations on program evaluations and research findings.
Maintain accurate records and documentation of research processes and outcomes

Through evaluating programs and researching mentorship practices, interns will acquire skills in strategic planning. They will learn how to use research findings to contribute to long-term planning and decision-making processes within the Student Events and Engagement Department.

Interns will develop strong written and verbal communication skills by preparing detailed reports and presentations. They will learn to effectively communicate their findings and recommendations to team members and stakeholders.

By reviewing successful peer mentorship programs and student engagement strategies, interns will gain a deeper understanding of effective practices and trends in the field. This knowledge will help them contribute to the development of innovative and impactful programs at CSUF.

Training  

**1. Hands-On Workshops:
Method: Conduct interactive workshops focused on program evaluation and research methodologies. These workshops can include practical exercises such as developing survey instruments, analyzing data, and creating reports.

Purpose: To provide the intern with the practical skills needed for assessing program effectiveness and conducting research.

**2. Mentorship and One-on-One Coaching:
Method: Schedule regular one-on-one meetings with the intern to discuss their progress, review their work, and provide personalized feedback and guidance. Use these sessions to address specific challenges and refine their approach to tasks.

Purpose: To offer tailored support, address individual learning needs, and enhance the intern’s understanding and application of skills.

**3. Access to Case Studies and Best Practice Resources:
Method: Provide the intern with case studies, reports, and articles on successful student programs and peer mentorship initiatives. Facilitate discussions around these resources to deepen their understanding of best practices and effective strategies.

Purpose: To help the intern learn from real-world examples and integrate successful strategies into their work.

**4. Collaborative Team Meetings:
Method: Involve the intern in regular team meetings where they can observe and participate in discussions about program planning, evaluation, and strategy. Encourage them to contribute ideas and present their findings from research.

Purpose: To expose the intern to team dynamics, strategic planning processes, and collaborative problem-solving.

**5. Practical Project Assignments:
Method: Assign the intern specific projects or tasks related to program evaluation and mentorship research. Examples include leading a review of a particular program or preparing a presentation on research findings.

Purpose: To provide hands-on experience and allow the intern to apply their learning in a real-world context, while also gaining feedback and improving their skills.

These training methods should equip the intern with the necessary skills and knowledge to meet the expected learning outcomes and contribute effectively to the Student Events and Engagement Department.

Tasks/Duties  

The intern will demonstrate the learning outcomes by:

Conducting Program Evaluations:

Task: Review and analyze at least two current or past ASI student programs, using feedback surveys, participation data, and outcome metrics.
Activity: Develop and present a detailed evaluation report highlighting strengths, weaknesses, and recommendations for future improvements.

Performing Research on Peer Mentorship Programs:

Task: Research and compile a comprehensive report on top peer mentorship programs across the country, including methodologies, success factors, and outcomes.
Activity: Prepare a presentation summarizing the findings and suggesting how these best practices could be adapted for ASI’s programs.

Contributing to Strategic Planning Sessions:

Task: Participate in strategic planning meetings and workshops, contributing insights from program evaluations and research findings.
Activity: Collaborate with the team to develop actionable strategies and recommendations based on the intern’s research and evaluation work.

Preparing and Delivering Reports and Presentations:

Task: Create and deliver at least two reports or presentations that summarize research findings or program evaluations to the Student Events and Engagement team.

Implementing and Testing New Strategies:

Task: Assist in piloting a new or revised program based on evaluation and research findings, including creating a plan for implementation and assessing initial outcomes.
