Teaching & Research Assistant in Psychology-Prof. AlcalaAt — CSUF - College of Humanities & Social Science
This lab investigates issues in cross-cultural and mixed-methods research. We will consider patterns of regularities and differences in children’s cognitive and prosocial development. Special attention will be paid to parental ethnotheories and cultural values related to learning in childhood and emerging adulthood (college students). Research assistants in this lab will gain an overview of developmental research using quantitative and qualitative methods. By the end of the academic year research assistants should
1. Understand the overall research process;
2. Identify the role of colonialism and oppression in development in the context of sociocultural theories;
3. Become familiar with mixed methods in psychological research;
4. Develop stimuli for experiments;
5. Identify psychosocial and cognitive milestones during middle-childhood period.
6. Become familiar with pedagogical practices and lesson planning for undergraduate courses.
7. Disseminate research findings via peer reviewed publications and conference presentations.
Training
Provide students with workshops and training sessions to learn inclusive pedagogies and related practices
I will train students to create grading rubrics that align with learning outcomes
Students will also participate in weekly meetings and check-ins
Students will be trained to create and carry out a mini-lecture
Tasks/Duties
Planning and conducting a mini-lecture on a topic of their choice
Evaluate formative assignments using existing rubrics
Hold office hours and mentor students
Draft a reflection paper at the end of the semester addressing how their participation in this internship supported their academic and professional development
