  • About Us

At Childhood Cancer Society (CCS), a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit, we provide essential support to families facing the trials of pediatric cancer. Our origin traces back to a teenager's resolve to amplify family support after his own childhood health challenges. Today, CCS commits to delivering hope, emotional reinforcement, and financial aid to ensure no child endures the journey of cancer treatment alone.

Embodying our ethos of perseverance and optimism is Adventure Ted, our superhero teddy bear and official spokes-bear. He embodies the courage found in adventures, guiding children and families to maintain a positive outlook by embracing his motto: \\See the adventure in all that you do.\\ CCS not only strives to alleviate the burden of childhood cancer but also to infuse this challenging journey with a sense of adventure and possibility.

Student interns help with:
-Outreach (reaching out to social media creators and businesses who can help raise awareness and money for our organization and childhood cancer in general)
-Plan collaborations (this involves research about the person/business we're reaching out to and mapping out what the partnership might look like)
-Modifying social media strategy (student interns not only help generate content ideas for our page, but they also help evaluate analytics and how well each post does. Based on data from previous posts, we modify our social media strategy for the coming weeks)
-Relationship management (once a collaboration has been solidified/executed, the contact the intern established with that business/creator is theirs to \\keep\\ - in other words, the intern helps stay in contact with them and invites them to participate in future campaigns that might be a good fit)

Training:

During the first meeting, interns participate in an onboarding session where they are provided a company email for their work with us, receive an internship guide, and ask any outstanding questions about expectations/their responsibilities. Interns have access to template messages and samples of past work on our Google Drive, and they have regular access to the Childhood Cancer Society Leadership Team. During calls and collaboration meetings with local businesses and social media creators/influencers, interns attend the meeting with a member of our leadership team who will help guide the conversation until student interns feel comfortable to independently have those conversations.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Learning how to effectively launch marketing campaigns and collaborate with Instagram creators
2. Learning to work in a team by contributing to brainstorm discussions and thinking critically about ideas discussed during meetings
3. Learning to think creatively about our social media strategy and implementing new strategies to see how we can improve our content
