AMST Social Justice Internship- Dr. WooAt — CSUF - College of Humanities & Social Science
1. Successfully consulting with supervisors and local organizations. -- 10 hours
2. Research campus and community organizations. -- 25 hours
3. Connect with DIRC and Ethnic Studies Depts and share events on AMST social media. -- 15 hours
4. Administer community partnership. – 45 hours
5. Plan and carry out 1-2 social justice events. – 25 hours
6. Complete a reflective essay on the efforts made and new directions for the AMST dept. in the area of social justice, inclusion, and community involvement.
Training:
1. Provide an initial orientation with the department chair and faculty supervisor.
2. Review list of campus and local opportunities/organizations 2-3 times during the semester.
3. Work with the intern and community partner to develop a sustainable program.
4. Consult with intern to develop 1-2 social justice events.
5. Partner with intern to brainstorm and develop meaningful paths forward.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Research campus and local community organizations where students and faculty could contribute to an array of social justice efforts (virtually and in person)
2. Create a digital resource page of organizations and projects for students and faculty.
3. Connect with DIRC and the Ethnic Studies Departments to share their events, workshops, and opportunities with the AMST community via social media, and invite them to participate in relevant AMST events.
4. In consultation with the internship coordinator, organize one to two events that bring students and faculty together around social justice issues.
5. Reflect on their experiences over the semester to develop a list of action items to facilitate the department’s ongoing effort to cultivate an inclusive, safe, and supportive space for everyone.
