Public Health Social Media InternAt — CSUF - Public Health

Opportunity Summary 

The Department of Public Health is seeking a dynamic and creative Social Media Intern to establish and manage social media accounts to promote departmental initiatives, spread awareness, and engage the community. This internship offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in crafting effective social media content focused on public health and managing an online presence.

Tasks:

1) Create a weekly content calendar, incorporating feedback from mentors.
2) Once a month, develop a multimedia campaign for an upcoming public health initiative and present the plan in a team meeting for critique and refinement.
3) Analyze weekly engagement metrics using Instagram Professional Tools and prepare a report highlighting key insights and recommendations.
4) Draft and maintain a response guide for common inquiries and comments on social media, aligned with the department's public health ethics and policies.
5) Develop and refine a comprehensive social media manual that includes standard operating procedures, best practices, a collection of standard responses, and troubleshooting tips.
6) Conduct a training workshop for successor interns, using the manual as a teaching tool, and gather feedback to improve it further.

Training:

Intern training will be a core focus throughout the internship. Training and supervision will be facilitated by an expert in public health content. Training for each individual learning outcome is as follows:

Learning outcome 1 Training:
1) hands-on resources to facilitate on graphic design and video editing using user friendly accessible applications such as Instagram Reel, Canva, Prezi etc.
2) regular content brainstorming sessions with feedback from faculty mentors to refine messaging and presentation.
3) training on using social media planner to schedule posts in advance to align content with current public health campaigns and departmental goals.

Learning Outcome 2 Training:
1) training sessions on using social media analytics platforms like Instagram professional tools.
2) regular review meetings with the faculty advisor to discuss analytics data, interpret trends, and adjust strategies accordingly.
3) case study analysis of successful social media campaigns to understand best practices in data-driven content strategy.

Learning Outcome 3 Training:
1) guidance on maintaining professionalism and aligning responses with public health ethics and departmental policies.
2) training to establish a consistent response pattern for social media interactions, ensuring they adhere to university and departmental policies.

Learning Outcome 4 Training:
1) instruction on manual creation, focusing on documentation practices, organizational skills, and clarity in writing.
2) intern-led sessions to practice knowledge transfer and explanation to successor interns.

Learning Outcome:

1. Develop and curate engaging, informative social media content that effectively communicates public health initiatives and relevant news to a diverse audience.

2. Employ analytic tools to monitor public health social media trends, track engagement, and refine strategies to improve audience reach.

3. Develop public health communication skills to respond to social media interactions and ensure engagement aligns with public health objectives.

4. Assemble a detailed public health social media manual and train successor interns.
