Opportunity Summary 

Assistant Teacher will supervise and engage with children between the ages of 3 months-3 years. Assistant Teachers will be gaining hands-on knowledge as they work with the children in a group setting. Assistant Teachers will be helping children with following routine, implementing strategies that are developmentally appropriate, and helping with the developmental learning of the children.

Tasks
Under the general guidance and direction of the Early Childhood Development Specialist (Lead Teacher), the Teacher Assistant (student worker) is responsible for the following daily or periodic tasks:

 

General Abilities and Tasks:

Assist in organizing supplies, equipment, inventory as directed by Lead Teachers or Administration
Ability to follow multi-step directions to complete assigned tasks
Ability and willingness to ask questions of higher-level staff or peers to finish assigned tasks
Ability to play with and interact with children in a respectful, responsive manner to meet children’s needs
Interact professionally with peers, supervisors, visitors, parents and children
Other assigned duties

General Classroom Responsibilities:

Ability to visually supervise children in care at all times (in accordance to CCLD regulations).
Assist in gathering evidence for DRDP assessments (creating and inputting objective written and photographic evidence into the Learning Genie Portfolio App as assigned by the Lead Teacher).
Assist in maintaining a classroom and playground environment according to Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS) and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEY) standards.
Must use appropriate language and behavior in the classroom conducive to accreditation standards and developmentally sensitive practices.

 

Health and Safety Responsibilities:

Ability to understand and follow all safety protocols for staff and in assistance of children, as outlined by program policies and standards.
Ability to communicate immediately and effectively to the Lead Teacher or Administrator any report of children’s injury or emergency.
Report any unsafe equipment, toys, etc. to Lead Teacher or to Administration.
Report to Lead Teacher any observations related to children’s illness or symptoms of illness.
Ability to remain calm during emergency situations and to follow multi-step directions as needed.
Understands and follows universal health precautions.
Cleans, sanitizes, and disinfects according to CDC/ LA Public Health Department/ NAEYC standards.

Mealtimes:

Helps prepare children’s meal service; including setting tables and ensuring all meal components are present at the start of the meal.
Models appropriate serving and eating habits for children.
Engages children in conversations during the mealtime.
May assist with counting and documenting meals served at the “point of service”
Assists in cleaning up after the meal service (ie: cleans/sanitizes tables, sweeps floors, light dishwashing)

Professional Development:

Attend all staff trainings indicated by Administration and/or the Education Coordinator via in person or via the CDC Canvas portal.
Complete CDC training assignments indicated by CDC Administration and/ or the Education Coordinator.
Participate in monthly classroom team meetings.

Training
Training will include hands-on experience as the student will be working with children, supervising, and interacting with them. The Lead teacher will shadow the student and provided weekly mentoring.

Learning Outcomes
1) Knowledge with Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDPs). Ability to observe, write, and attach measures.
2) Create activities based on children's interest that are developmentally appropriate.
3) Interact positively with children and have an general understanding where the children are developmentally.
