Opportunity Summary 

Assisting with managing our client-tracking software 

Tasks:

Data entry and cleanup of Mission Tracker
Data reporting and data visualization of Mission Tracker

  •  Use SQL to pull data for ad-hoc requests and reporting needs, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of data.
  •  Conduct data cleaning, merging, and quality control to ensure the integrity of data throughout the migration process.
  •  Document all data-related tasks, including requirements gathering, user interviews, and any findings from research or reporting projects.
  •  Maintain and update Power BI datasets, ensuring that dashboards reflect current data and meet organizational needs.
  •  Collaborate with the consultant to enhance and optimize reporting systems, including SQL-based reports and Power BI dashboards.
  •  Perform data analysis using Power BI and other tools, and provide actionable insights based on findings.
  •  Assist in troubleshooting data issues and support the maintenance of the reporting systems.
  •  Attend regular staff meetings, training sessions, and consultations to stay informed and aligned with ongoing projects.

Training Technique:

The intern will undergo a structured training process that includes both hands-on experience and observational learning. Training will be provided by the supervisor through a combination of regular one-on-one meetings, shadowing sessions, and task-based guidance.

 

Orientation & Onboarding:

The internship will begin with an orientation session to introduce the intern to the organization, team, and relevant data systems (Power BI, SQL, database tools, etc).

Safety and data privacy procedures will be covered to ensure compliance with organizational policies.

 

One-on-One Meetings:

Weekly one-on-one meetings will be held to review the intern’s progress, discuss challenges, and provide personalized feedback. These meetings will serve as a platform for ongoing evaluation and adjustment of tasks.

 

Shadowing the Consultant:

The intern will shadow the consultant regularly to learn about data migration processes, reporting system enhancements, and troubleshooting. During shadowing sessions, the intern will observe how the consultant handles complex tasks and will document these processes for future reference.

 

Task-Based Learning:

 The intern will be assigned specific tasks, such as pulling data using SQL, updating Power BI dashboards, and documenting user requirements. These tasks will be closely monitored, with direct instruction provided on how to complete each task to ensure the intern learns effectively.

 

Feedback & Evaluation:

Constructive feedback will be given during task reviews, both verbally during meetings and through written evaluations. The intern will also be encouraged to ask questions and actively seek guidance when needed.

 

Progress Assessments:

Midway through the internship, there will be a formal evaluation to assess the intern's learning outcomes and provide direction for the remainder of the internship.

 

Ongoing Training:

Throughout the internship, the intern will participate in training sessions or workshops aimed at building skills in Power BI, SQL, and data analysis. These sessions will include hands-on practice, scenario-based learning, and self-study materials.

This training technique focuses on a combination of guided learning, hands-on experience, regular feedback, and shadowing, ensuring the intern develops the skills needed for the role while being supported throughout the process.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the internship, the student will be able to effectively manage data-related tasks, including pulling data using SQL, conducting data cleaning and quality control, and ensuring accurate data migration. The student will have gained the ability to create and optimize Power BI dashboards, understand the reporting needs of users, and enhance existing reporting systems. Additionally, they will have developed the skills to gather user requirements through interviews, work collaboratively with a consultant to document and implement custom solutions, and troubleshoot data-related issues. The intern will leave with a solid understanding of data management, reporting, and visualization tools, positioning them for success in a data-driven environment.
