Gallery Assistant and Social Media Content Creator InternAt — La Habra Art Association Gallery

Opportunity Summary 

Under the guidance of the gallery Board member assigned, the intern will assist in

  • Writing articles to promote artists,  events, and exhibitions
  • writing or editing artists bios, statements, and description of their art and style
  • updating the gallery brochure
  • Assist in creating promo posters and news highlights of the upcoming shows and gallery events. 
  • Creating short videos/slideshows for posting in gallery Social Media accounts
  • Assist in facilitating and hosting art exhibits, receptions, workshops and community events
  • Assist in conducting art workshops and classes
  • Maintaining general upkeep of gallery and exhibit
  • Sit the gallery during gallery hours whenever available Gallery hours: Saturdays and Sundays    12pm – 4pm

Training:

The intern will be under the guidance of a Board member assigned for each task. There will be a monthly Board meeting which the intern has to attend. Each task or assignment will be created and evaluated using the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Relevant, and Time bound) criteria. Creating SMART goals for each task will ensure that tasks are clear, realistic and meaningful. Students and supervisors will be able to set expectations, track progress, and evaluate results consistently, and efficiently.

The student will have an orientation to the policies and procedures of the gallery and expectations during the internship. The student will be given access to the website, the social media accounts, and written materials about the history, mission statement, and goals of the gallery. The student will be asked to join the monthly Board meetings, member meetings, classes, and events at the gallery. He/she will be asked to register for Zoom workshops related to the tasks whenever available.

A weekly meeting will be held via live or Zoom to track progress of each SMART goal and make revisions when necessary.

On a monthly basis, there will be an evaluation on how the goals have been met and analyze additional steps to take to improve or get closer to meeting set goals and objectives. During the internship, The student will choose which activity he/she will choose as final hands on assignment re: conduct workshop or plan and host an art exhibit.

A final review and evaluation will be made at the end of the internship.

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to gain hands on experience in -

• Planning, preparing, and installing art exhibits
• Different kinds of art mediums and styles
• Interacting with artists and the community
• Hands on experience in creating graphic design and social media content
• Experience developing and maintaining website
• Learn business side of art through the artisan shop and e-commerce
• Gain skills in interacting with artists, community leaders, and art patrons
• Develop marketing skills
