Opportunity Summary 

Communication College Intern serves as staff support to the Public Information & Communication Officer (PICO) assisting in various communications based duties. Interns will be able to creatively influence and develop communication content that will be shared with our local community as they work to complete the requirements for their college program.

Tasks:

During the course of this internship, students will gain a comprehensive set of communication skills designed to prepare them for a variety of professional environments. Key outcomes include:

Effective Digital and Traditional Communication Strategies
Students will learn to craft compelling messages using both digital platforms (social media, websites, email newsletters) and traditional media (flyers, newsletters, posters). Emphasis will be placed on tailoring messages for diverse audiences and situations.

Basic Graphic Design and Content Creation
Through hands-on experience, students will learn fundamental graphic design principles, including layout, typography, color theory, and visual hierarchy. These skills will be applied to create engaging visual content that supports communication goals.

Developing Voice and Messaging Styles
Students will understand how to create distinct voice and tone in communications, adjusting for various contexts such as public relations, community updates, or internal communications. They will learn how to adapt messaging to align with brand identity and specific audiences.

Photography and Videography
Students will be trained in basic photography and videography techniques, including composition, lighting, and editing. This skill set will allow them to capture and produce high-quality visuals for marketing materials, social media, and school campaigns.

Training:

Interns will receive an initial general employer orientation. There will be weekly scheduled one on one mentor meetings. Job Shadowing and hands on experience with mentor guidance. During the course of this internship, students will gain a comprehensive set of communication skills designed to prepare them for a variety of professional environments.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to demonstrate hands on experience in Effective Digital and Traditional Communication Strategies, Basic Graphic Design and Content Creation, Developing Voice and Messaging Styles, Photography and Videography, & Interview and Storytelling Techniques
