Adolescent Parent Program Intern - Fountain ValleyAt — Fristers

Opportunity Summary 

Interns will assist in childcare/school readiness program for children, ages 0-5 years old, at nonprofit, Fristers. Interns will put their classroom education to work in the real world, leading activities, games and crafts which foster language development, cognitive development, motor development, and social/emotional development in newborns, toddlers and school age children. Interns will read to children during story time. Interns will gain hands-on experience with childcare program administration including check in and check out procedures. Interns will assist with developmental assessment testing. Help implement curriculum and weekly lesson plan, working one on one with children; assist with classroom set up; utilize dialogic reading practices during story time to engage children; serve dinner to toddlers; assist with caring for infants' basic needs including feeding and changing, read to babies and engage babies in our sensory boards, give loving, individual attention to children. We are currently hiring interns for the Spring 2025 semester, beginning January 2025 and ending in May 2025. Interns will be supervised by Senior Program Manager, Karina Cervantes, MA. Qualifications:
Major in Child and Adolescent Studies, Human Services, Psychology, Public Health or relevant field 
Friendly, warm, and welcoming attitude 
Self-starter, reliable, and detail oriented 
Physically capable of lifting 25lbs.

Training:

Students will participate in a training at the Fristers business office in Irvine.

Student will receive a minimum 4 hour training which incorporates vital statistics on the adolescent parent population and their children, Fristers’ methods and methodologies for addressing the needs of adolescent parents and children, best practices for building healthy relationships with people who come from low income backgrounds including ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) Interface training, and specific direction for required tasks and responsibilities.

Hands-on experience interacting with toddlers and school age children utilizing pre-school curriculum.
Understanding of developmental milestones and assessments of children
Learning how to read to children to spark interest and learning
Learning what it takes to run a program/organization
