Youth Development Professional - Rancho Santa MargaritaAt — Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley
Would you like to impact the future today? We’re looking for people with a passion for working with kids to help them grow to meet the challenges of their futures. Our part-time Youth Development Professionals work with our members ages 6 – 18 after school in a variety of fun and educational areas: education, technology, athletics, social recreation, and arts and crafts. Hours vary by location, but will be in the range of 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Requirements
High school diploma
Experience working with children, particularly in planning high yield youth activities
Communication skills to deal with children and with the general public (bilingual in Spanish a plus)

1. Safety: Promotes the safety of members. Communicate safety concerns in a timely fashion for both external and internal. Adhere to child safety laws and the Club’s child safety policies.
2. Guidance: Provides guidance, program support and role modeling to members and other staff. Support members and families going through transitions.
3. Planning: Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates programs with outcome driven goals. Plans, implements and evaluates a wide variety of events. Collects data and researches current trends and makes recommendations for activities, events and programs for upcoming program cycle.
4. Participation & Orientation: Recruits new members and volunteers. Participates in school functions, Club fundraisers, program events and staff meetings.
5. Special Programs: May participate in collaborative partner events.
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professionals and volunteers), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems and disseminating information.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to build a skill set in conflict resolution amongst young people and help them navigate making choices based off of what is right and wrong. The student will also be able to learn best practices of Youth Development, and how to teach youth to explore their interests with adult support and guidance. Lastly, the student will be able to gain experience in after school programming and implementation of high-yield activities at a world-class non-profit organization.
