Opportunity Summary 

Intern will work with the Education Coordinator (Patient and Family Education Program Coordinator) to create and review educational materials for patients and families. Education materials are reviewed for health literacy with the goal of ensuring that all education is understandable and easy to use. 

Complete review and editing of education documents for health literacy principles and plain language. Explore with preceptor innovative approaches to providing understandable and easy to access educational materials. Create discharge preparedness plans for diagnosis specific education. Create education for healthcare professionals on health literacy and plain language.

Training:

Training will mainly be job shadowing and review of assigned projects with preceptor.

Learning Outcomes:

Intern will be able to identify principles of health literacy.
Intern will be able to describe how health literacy is a social determinate of health.
Intern will be able to identify barriers for patients and families to understand health education.
Intern will be able to describe the link between health literacy and health equity.
