Opportunity Summary 

Aquatic Sports Performance is seeking a dynamic and motivated intern to join our team and contribute to the enhancement of athletic performance for aquatic athletes.

Seeking Strength & Conditioning intern to work with athletes aged 7 - 85 years. Interns will receive \\on the floor\\ coaching experience and curriculum on our training system. 

Must have or seeking to obtain CSCS or personal training certification. Needs to maintain CPR/AED. 

Must be able to work early mornings and late afternoon/evenings. 

1-20 hours/week. Internship is unpaid with potential for part-time employment. 

Tasks:

The student will begin by shadowing coaching sessions and asked to complete tasks related to operating a sports performance business.
As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced coaches in a supportive and collaborative environment. Your primary responsibility will involve assisting in the implementation of individualized training programs for athletes aged 7-85 years

You will gain hands-on experience in conducting assessments, designing training plans, and providing guidance on technique refinement. This internship offers a unique chance to immerse yourself in the world of training athletes, learning from experienced coaches, while contributing to the growth and success of our athletes.

The intern will be asked to assist in coaching athletes and will receive the opportunity to practice writing and implement training programs.

Training:

To support the student in achieving the outlined learning outcomes, the following training and development opportunities will be provided during the placement:

Orientation and Onboarding
1x onboarding/staff handbook review meeting (includes signing the internship agreement).
1x ASP system/facility tour and equipment orientation (includes access to TrainHeroic and the ASP staff app)

Hands-On Experience and Coaching Development

Shadow and assist with 80 athlete training sessions to gain practical exposure to program implementation and athlete interaction.
Participate in 2x coaching trials to apply skills in a supervised environment.

Focused Coaching Development Meetings

1x ASP Training System meeting to understand the foundational approach to programming and methodology.
1x upper body coaching meeting, 1x lower body coaching meeting, 1x torso coaching meeting, and 1x mobility/assessment coaching meeting for targeted skill development in these critical areas.

Reading and Theoretical Frameworks

Required reading: ASP Training Systems, How to Win Friends & Influence People, and Science and Practice of Strength Training by Vladimir Zatsiorsky to develop both technical expertise and interpersonal coaching skills.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to

1. Design and Implement Effective Training Programs
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to create individualized and group strength and mobility training programs tailored to meet the unique needs and goals of athletes.

2. Assess and Monitor Athlete Performance
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to conduct comprehensive assessments of athlete strength, mobility, and overall physical condition, while effectively monitoring progress over time.

3. Develop Professional Communication and Coaching Skills
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to effectively communicate training objectives, provide constructive feedback, and motivate athletes in both individual and group settings.
