WRC Center InternAt — CSUF - Women's Resource Center

Opportunity Summary 

The WRC Center Intern supports the staff and community with operations and services provided by the Women's Resource Center at Cal State Fullerton. The intern will provide support with outreach and retention of the women-identified and non-binary student community by greeting and engaging students that visit the center. The intern will also support and promote the WRC at outreach events that focus on free community resources. The intern will complete a project or program that reflects their skills and knowledge related to their major, with intersectional elements of identify development, education, or resource sharing.

Learning Outcomes  

Oral Comprehension-The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
Oral Expression-The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking others will understand.
Written Expression-The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing others will understand.
Problem Sensitivity- The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing that there is a problem.
Active Listening- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
Monitoring- Monitoring/assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.

Training  

Through our center manual and in person conversations, Interns will be provided with the foundational knowledge and history of the WRC community and culture including terminology, identity development theory, and allyship/advocacy of the community. They will be trained on fundamental skills related to the basics of professional and office culture, centrally focusing on communication, outreach, and project development. Interns will meet on a weekly basis with the center coordinator.

Tasks/Duties  

Outreach and recruit undergraduate and graduate students to engage with programs and events at the center.
Greet guests that visit the center and answer general questions about the space and resources.
Connect visitors with various campus and community resources to further contribute to their success and retention at the university.
Support coordinator in developing, publicizing, and facilitating one program or project, that utilizes the students experience and skills within their academic major and incorporates references to identity, culture, and education.
