About the Organization:
Pacific Symphony is the premier symphonic orchestra in Orange County, CA. Through exceptional musical performances, educational opportunities and community programming, Pacific Symphony inspires, engages and serves the Orange County community and Southern California region.
Like all nonprofit organizations, we need interns! We seek interns who are interested in giving back to the community while helping to spread the magic of orchestral music. Our interns enthusiastically advance the mission of Pacific Symphony through the contributions of their time, talent, resources, and ambassadorship. Our interns are the window to the Symphonic community and are a reflection of the diversity of interests and backgrounds that are found in Orange County.
We need skills-based interns who have the time and expertise to assist our various departments in and outside of the Symphony Office. These departments are Finance, Marketing and Public Relations, Development, Artistic and Orchestra Operations, and Education and Community Outreach. We need skills-based professionals who have time to give to a project-based assignment, short or long-term, and who are experts in the following fields: Human Resources, Public Relations, Marketing, Social Media, Data Management, IT/tech, Web Development, Writing, Office Administration and more! About the Role:
Pacific Symphony is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Social Media Intern to join our marketing team! This role is perfect for someone passionate about music, storytelling, and digital media. You will assist in creating and managing engaging social media content that brings the magic of live orchestral music to life for our online audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning, creating, and scheduling content for social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Twitter/X).
- Capture behind-the-scenes moments and live content during events using an iPhone or other mobile devices.
- Conduct brief interviews with musicians, staff, and concert attendees for social media.
- Create visually appealing graphics and videos using tools like Canva.
- Monitor social media engagement and respond to comments or messages as needed.
- Stay updated on social media trends and suggest creative ideas to grow our online presence.
Qualifications:
- Strong interest in social media, digital content creation, and storytelling.
- Experience with iPhone video recording and editing (familiarity with apps like iMovie, InShot, or CapCut is a plus).
- Proficiency in Canva or similar design tools.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently on assigned projects.
- Knowledge of or interest in music and the arts is a bonus!
Details:
- Location: Based in Irvine, California (onsite presence may be required for events).
- Duration: Part-time internship (flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends for events).
- Compensation: Stipend or academic credit available, depending on arrangement.

Tasks
Join Marketing & Communications team in brainstorming new content calendar ideas for social media.
Social Media Content Creation: Assist social media agency in generation engaging and visually appealing content for Pacific Symphony's social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
Content Planning: Collaborate with the Communications Director and Vice President of Marketing & Communications as well as social media agency to develop a content calendar that aligns with Pacific Symphony's goals, performance schedule, and promotional campaigns.
Community Engagement: Foster an active and vibrant online community by responding to comments, messages, and inquiries from followers and fans under supervision of Director of Communications.
Social Media Analytics: Assist in monitoring and analyzing social media performance using relevant tools and platforms. Assist social media agency with monthly reports and insights to help optimize our social media strategy and executional marketing
Promotional Campaigns: Assist in the development and execution of marketing and promotional campaigns to drive brand awareness, audience engagement, and ticket sales.
Live Event Coverage: Work with Director of Communications and Vice President of Marketing & Communications to attend and cover Pacific Symphony concerts and events. This content would be shared with the social media agency, Director of Communications and Vice President of Marketing & Communications, who will share behind-the-scenes content and live updates.
Research and Trends: Stay current with the latest social media trends, tools, and best practices in order to keep our online presence fresh and innovative.
Participate in one social media project during the term /semester and report on it to the wider Marketing & Communications team.
Training
During the internship, students will receive a general organizational orientation with Pacific Symphony.
During the internship, the student will receive weekly one-one-one trainings by their supervisor/mentor in the marketing department about best practices of arts marketing,
The intern will shadow the job of their supervisor/mentor and work on real-time assigned projects and receive appropriate feedback from their supervisor/mentor.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to create visually appealing graphics and videos.
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to plan, create and schedule content for social media.
By the end of the academic internship, the student will have gained experience conducting interviews with the public for the purpose of social media outreach.
By the end of the academic internship, the student will have been mentored by professional marketing staff who are experts in their field of arts market
