ABA ParaprofessionalAt — California Pediatric and Family Services
Looking for enthusiastic candidates to work with young children impacted with autism. All new hires will be taught applied behavior analysis strategies to then help kids gain skills in language and communication, self-help, socialization and play, and learning readiness. Candidates will receive training in parent education, professionalism, communicating with supervisors, and managing challenging behaviors by teaching functional replacement behaviors.
Tasks:
Provide ABA therapy to children impacted with autism (most therapy sessions are 2-3 hours each)
Take data on behavior and skill acquisition using trial by trial, duration recording, interval recording, or ABC contingency.
Train parents on how to generalize skills learned in therapy sessions.
Professionalism with staff, supervisors, and parents
Communicate any questions on child progress, programs, parental concerns with the program supervisor.
Training:
Students receive general employer orientation. They will also go through a 40 hour in person training with the director. These trainings teach behavior principles, behavior management skills, teaching strategies (e.g., discrete trial teaching, FCT, Natural Environment Teaching), and Shaping and Chaining skills. The student will also be closely supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and consistent feedback and training will be provided throughout the month. The student is also given a training handbook and handouts which cover material covered in the in person training.
Learning Outcome:
1. Utilize reinforcement and extinction procedures to decrease challenging behaviors and increase functional communication based on behavior function.
2. Communicate in a professional manner with parents and supervisors.
3. Observe, measure, and document data to be used for progress reports demonstrating gains made by the client.
4. Provide parent training to help parents generalize skills gained in therapy.
