Patient Care InternAt — Vitas Healthcare
Volunteers for either Administrative and or Direct Patient care roles. Assist with making phone calls to patients and caregivers, provide friendly patient care visits, provide caregiver relief, assist the nursing staff with packets, work on bereavement newsletters, memory craft items, support the administrative staff with patient care files, patient care audits, compliance folders, be able to have some computer knowledge, filing knowledge, be a team player, be able to use simple office equipment, may have to drive if visiting patient or shadowing staff, be dependable and reliable.
Tasks:
Duties vary for administrative volunteers and include, building packets for our nursing staff, stuffing envelopes for our bereavement services department, work on special projects like Veteran's Day or Memorial service, create or assist with the quarterly newsletter, reach out to the community for support groups or specialty groups to assist in serving our patients and loved ones. Patient care volunteers will be providing friendly visits, assist with caregiver relief, read a patient a book or play music to a patient, work on art projects, provide your listening skills.
Training:
There are multiple trainings based on the position the intern will take. All volunteers must attend a general orientation and then a training on the specific job role. Volunteers must have knowledge of the companies policies and procedures and understand the community we serve. Be able to identify what Hospice is. Complete a 1 hour self study on compliance training. We offer staff shadowing in various disciplines to introduce you to the specific role for the community. Volunteers work under the supervision of the Volunteer Manager and a Team Member when out in the field. For those student that would like to complete a Life Bio for a patient, we provide a 1 hour webinar on this specific task to allow volunteers to capture a patients life story. We will provide training on the administrative tasks assigned and be familiar with documents, fliers and mailings. There will be weekly scheduled one-on-one meetings with the Volunteer Manager.
