HOPE® is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that has focused on empowering our communities through advocacy, Latina leadership training, and increasing knowledge on the contributions Latinas have made to advance the status of women for the past 35 years. To date, HOPE’s innovative programming has served 65,000 Latinas statewide and touched the lives of several thousand more.

Job Scope

HOPE is seeking a Community Engagement and Innovation (CEI) Intern to work with the CEI Team to assist in a variety of projects in the planning and implementation of HOPE’s signature events and Regional Leadership Institute sessions. The Community Engagement & Innovation Department at HOPE is primarily responsible for the ongoing process of identifying, cultivating, and stewarding our stakeholders through outreach, education and training, connection building, communication, and advocacy to achieve our mission. You will be responsible for the following tasks although tasks may vary depending on the project you will be assisting with. 

Responsibilities

Planning, Development, & Implementation

  • Assist in the development of regional leadership program sessions 

  • Assist in research for curriculum development 

  • Support with material creation and project coordination for example putting a definition document for advocacy/leadership  

  • Logistics support for example: venue outreach in specific regions, obtaining quotes for AV services, and finding vendors for specific program needs including obtaining quotes from caterers.  

Research & Communication

  • Update alumnae and cohort members of HOPE news and updates via WhatsApp and other tools 

  • Create invitations for speakers and cohort  

  • Research and update Latina specific data at the regional and national level 

  • Research partner organizations in key markets (Texas, New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Central Valley, etc.) 

  • Assist with tracking touchpoints and communication with program alumnae 

Organizational Support

  • Collaborate with team members to support various administrative functions, including scheduling, correspondence, data entry, and document preparation 

  • Assist with the design and creation of basic graphics and program materials, for example: bio sheets for speakers, name badges for guest speakers, name badges for classes. 

Preferred Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate project progress effectively
  • Extremely well organized, detail oriented, flexible, and able to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to take initiative and work effectively both independently and with a team
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Docs
  • Commitment to HOPE's mission and goals
  • Able to communicate in Spanish, both spoken and written – preferred but not required

Commitment & Schedule

Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm PST. Schedules are flexible, but interns are expected to commit a minimum of 15 hours per week.

Training:

1. Host a virtual orientation session to provide insight on the history of the organization and goals of the program
2. Access to HOPE original research, exposure to HOPE alumnae network and access to our advocacy events and leadership program sessions
3. Train on the steps to curriculum development and program agendas, each focusing on a different level of policy and advocacy
4. Guide intern through the steps of program/event planning from beginning stages of planning to implementation

2. Determine political power structures to leverage the opportunities for civic engagement
3. Recognize the strength of Latinas through cultural appreciation, history and career trajectory of leaders from the HOPE alumnae network
