Opportunity Summary 

We seek a dynamic and motivated Occupational, Environmental, Health, and Safety (OEHS) Intern to join our team. The intern will be crucial in applying theoretical knowledge of safety management principles in practical scenarios, specifically focusing on injury and illness prevention programs. The successful candidate will be involved in various tasks related to hazard assessments, risk evaluation, ergonomic hazard analysis, and communication strategies within the organization.

Tasks:

The intern duties are, but not limited to:

1. Apply Safety Management Principles to program evaluations:
Utilize theoretical knowledge of safety management principles to contribute to developing and implementing injury and illness prevention programs.

2. Assist with Comprehensive Hazard Assessments:
Use SMS concepts to assist in conducting comprehensive hazard assessments. Evaluate risk levels and recommend effective control measures based on thorough assessments.

3. Assist with Ergonomic Hazard Evaluation:
Assess ergonomic hazards by observing workstations, work processes, equipment, and policies to minimize physical strain. Develop strategies to reduce the risk of Cumulative Trauma Disorders (CTE) and Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD).

4. Environmental and Public Health Risk Assessments:
Understand the environmental and public health risks associated with industrial work processes to analyze how these risks impact both workers and the general public.

5. Effective Public Communication:
Communicate safety concepts and recommendations effectively with workers, colleagues, and all levels of management. Utilize adult learning techniques, evaluate diverse audience needs, and employ various technical writing skills to ensure clear and concise communication.

Training:

The intern will receive bi-weekly training in conjunction with our staff and weekly one-on-one mentor meetings with the Senior Director of the OEHS and Risk Management Programs. Training will also be accomplished by visiting client sites and conducting hands-on, interactive training.

Learning Outcome:

1.Apply theoretical knowledge of safety management principles in practical scenarios, as it applies to injury & illness prevention programs

2. Understand the methodology and tools used to conduct comprehensive hazard assessments and show proficiency in evaluating risk levels to implement effective control measures.

3. Evaluate ergonomic hazards by observing workstations, work processes, equipment used, and policies to minimize physical strain and reduce CTE/MSD risk.

4. Understand environmental and public health risks associated with industrial work processes & how they affect workers and the general public.

5. Communicate effectively with workers, colleagues, and all levels of management using adult learning techniques, diverse audience evaluation and different technical writing skills.
