Sports Performance Coach InternAt — D1 Training Huntington Beach
Under the administrative direction of the Head Coach of Sports Performance, this coach will assist the entire staff in the implementation of human performance programs to a broad range of populations in the private sector of athletic-based training. After going through a comprehensive & detailed on-boarding program, as used in our internship curriculum, the Sports Performance Coach will be equipped to train our afternoon classes with the scholastic populations. From there, our coaches will be able to move forward in leading training classes with our adults & then eventually move into our private/1-on-1 training at a higher level.

Training:
The first two weeks of the internship requires the intern to onboard & review the Employee Handbook. Going over the proper amount of shadow hours & basic duties are required before actual coaching. There is a Staff Meeting every Monday and 30-Minute Intern Check-In's after the all-hands meeting. There is a Marketing & Business meeting every Tuesday. Every Thursday will have a specific Internship Meeting on Programming & Science-Based Principles that include Research Articles.
The second half of the internship includes designing a full-year program design & presentation. Performing a Mock Interview & reviewing the Resume & Cover Letter files are important to equip the intern with the tools needed to build a career. Specific workshops will be added as the intern grows, this includes specialized learning in advanced training methods & philosophies such as Joint Mobility, Core Stability, Speed Development, Olympic Weightlifting, & Mental Skills Training.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the academic internship the student will be able to understand how to practically apply sports performance training concepts to a multitude of populations. With a variety of individuals coming through the facility, from adults to professional athletes, the coach will be equipped to make informed decisions on program implementations. Having the ability to think critically with long-term planning will teach the principles of human performance within the layers of rehabilitation & physical preparation. Creating systems and processes are the foundation of what the professions demands from an entry-level coach but then being able to communicate, visualize, & then interpret data are the next steps in this role. Learning the intricacies of graphic design, athlete profiling, client databases, business models, and team reports are critical to maximizing coaching roles in this profession. Having a unique philosophical approach to athletic performance is the ultimate goal once the internship is complete. Using this experience with high-level & multi-dimensional populations gives the coach an opportunity to find their competitive advantage in this field.
