Opportunity Summary 

Plan, prepare, supervise, implement, and evaluate a program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the YMCA of Orange County. Maintain a positive controlled environment while meeting the needs of all children. Maintain an attitude of dignity and respect toward children, parents, and staff. Maintain a clean environment. Attend all staff meetings and trainings. Maintain an open line of communication with staff, parents, and the director. Direct parents to a supervisor if a problem arises. Follow and enforce safety regulations and other YMCA and school policies, procedures. Maintain the safety of all children. Perform other duties as assigned.

Tasks:

Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to push, lift, pull, and/or move to up to 40 lbs. Travel as required to meet accountabilities. Plan, prepare, supervise, implement, and evaluate a program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the YMCA of Orange County. Supervise up to 14 children or 28 alongside another YMCA teacher per Title 22 regulations.

Training:

All staff are required to complete a series of YMCA trainings involving curriculum development, safety and supervision guidelines, behavior management, and hazardous materials. All YMCA staff are required to complete Mandated Reporter, CPR, and First Aid trainings as well.

Learning outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong customer service skills, ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures, ability to be an effective member of project teams. They will be able to work effectively with people of different background, abilities, opinions, and perceptions.

Note:

YMCA staff will be handling cleaning materials such as bleach, and other cleaning chemicals along with any art materials (paint, glue). YMCA will be utilizing materials such as: paper cutters, scissors, vacuum. YMCA staff must be able to list/push up to 40 lbs. All YMCA staff are required to attend a Hazardous Materials Training as well.
