Accounting InternAt — Moulton Niguel Water District
The District's Accounting Department is responsible for full cycle accounting functions including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger accounting, governmental reporting, and maintaining internal controls. The Accounting Intern will report directly to the Principal Accountant and work alongside the entire Accounting Team. This internship will provide the applicant the opportunity to apply knowledge acquired in the classroom to real-world situations and perform daily accounting tasks and activities.
Tasks:
Student will assist in the weekly accounts payable process which is reviewed by senior accounting staff, assist with inventory cycle counts and invoice sorting which is reviewed by senior Purchasing staff, assist in year-end records destruction which will be delegated and reviewed by senior Accounting staff. assist with cash deposit procedures, and assist in cash reconciliation.
Training:
The training that students will receive during this placement will include a general employer orientation, shadow accounting & procurement staff, have one on one meeting with mentor, have instruction and oversight of work to understand processes and procedures, attend in-house trainings.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to complete the basic accounting cycle, including accounts payable and accounts receivable, perform inventory counts, understand and perform records retention and destruction procedures, and perform cash management and reconciliation duties.
