Opportunity Summary 

Applying ABA (applied behavior analysis) to kids on the spectrum in home settings to help alter behaviors.

Tasks:

- accurate data collection or given programs and BIPs

managing behaviors according to behavioral intervention plan. 

- teaching and implementing numerous coping strategies appropriate to the child 

- aiding in socialization with peers when applicable which may include sharing, waiting, games, mand training, or overall conversations 

- teaching concepts such as prepositions, associations, and pretend play throughout session time 

- collaborate with caregivers and implement parent training when available 

 

Training:

 Training will include:

- weekly meetings to discuss how sessions are being conducted and if any adjustments will need to be made 

- thorough review of data collection amongst all programming 

- a constant open line of communication with the therapy team if needed 

- monthly evaluation form 

- training such as CPI, CPR, play skills teaching, ABAT, toilet training, and child development specialist will need to be completed before conducting sessions. 

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to gain experience working with children and their families whole collaborating with a supervisor to maintain ethical standards of ABA techniques. Learning the process of report writing and analyzing data and assessments.
