PrePA Intern/ AideAt — Alamitos West Health and Rehabilitation

Opportunity Summary 

The primary purpose of this position is to provide assigned residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the assessment and care plan.

-Possess the ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and accept constructive criticism.
-Able to work with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset people within the facility.
-Able to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.

Tasks:

-Performs personal care activities including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, skin care/nail care, oral hygiene, shaving, dressing, and others as directed/requested.
-Responds promptly and courteously to resident requests for assistance and emergency pull cords.
-Assist with moving and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc.
-Assist residents to walk with or without self-help devices as instructed.

Training:

This 3 month internship offers daily one-on-one mentoring where they will be paired with a mentor in our facility. They will shadow providers and engage in hands-on experiences with patients. Mentors will teach interns patient-care, motor rehabilitation,medical illnesses and treatments. To ensure learning outcomes are met, mentors will keep interns engaged by verbally quizzing them throughout their shifts together. There will be feedback and evaluation at the end of each week follow by an overall evaluation at the ends of the 3 month program. Before starting, interns must complete orientation where they will learn their job roles, clinical setting skills, healthy body mechanics, hand hygiene, safety protocol and emergency plans. During orientation they will be able to network and pick their mentors.

Learning outcome:

-Perform simple procedures as an extension of therapy services under the direction and supervision of the nurse, e.g. range of motion exercises, assistance in ambulation or exercises.
-Performs personal care activities including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, skin care/nail care, oral hygiene, shaving, dressing, and others as directed/requested.
-Observes and documents the health and emotional condition of each resident, promptly reporting all changes to the nurse.

Experience in shadowing our providers such as nurses, doctors, and physical therapists

- Interns will be exposed to team dynamic and relationships in a clinic setting

- Gain experience in following treatment plans

- Have opportunities to demonstrate their profficiency in anatomy and physiology 

- Have opportunities to apply motor control, learning, and behavior when assisting in patient’s treatment

- Learn and perform vital signs recording

- Learn about the multiple diseases/illnesses found in a clinical rehab setting

- Learn infection control and first aid

- Experience in receiving and giving patient reports to staff and peers
