Opportunity Summary 

Student/volunteer position available for students looking to obtain clinical volunteer hours for undergrad & grad school. Real-world hands on exposure in an outpatient physical therapy clinic. Patients ranging from Professional athletes to Geriatrics. Learn proper movement mechanics, exercises, stretches, modalities, terminology, and patient care in an outpatient physical therapy clinic. Monthly In-service at clinic with under grad students, grad students PTs, and PTAs to present current topics. Applicants must be motivated and focused on a career in physical therapy.

Greet and interact with patients. Demonstrate proper movement mechanics of exercises and stretches with patients. Help administer ultrasound, TENS, IFC, cold, and hot packs, and cold laser.

Training:

Training received will be a brief orientation to the clinic and staff. One on one training with a DPT and other students of various levels. Proper terminology and documentation along with learning proper movement mechanics and stretches are listed in a clinic handbook for students to study on site. Muscle origins and insertion points are also discussed on a daily basis.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to greet and interact professionally with patients in an outpatient physical therapy clinic. The student will be able to effectively communicate proper movement mechanics and stretches to patients as well as administer modalities such as ultra sound, STEM and TENS units, and ice/heat packs.
