Photography/Event Operations InternAt — USA Water Polo

Opportunity Summary 

This internship will assist the communications and event departments in daily tasks as well as handle event-related tasks. 

The communications portion of this internship will include providing high quality photos during USA Water Polo events, social media content, video content and some graphic design work.

The event operations portion of this internship will include working in the various roles needed to produce an event such as ticketing, score tables, event marketing, team registration and customer service. 

This position is not limited to the tasks listed above and may have other duties relating to water polo, communication and sports. 

Communications Tasks:
Photography: Student will learn the types of photographs that are expected for a non-profit, Olympic sports team and how to best incorporate branding in shot selection.
Graphic Design & Social Media Content Construction: Student will learn how to utilize brand guidelines to create social media content consistent with USAWP's look, feel and tone that will be posted to our social media channels.
Video: Student will learn how to prepare to interview subjects, shoot social media interviews with the best settings for lighting and audio and work with comms team when scheduling content.
Event Operations Tasks:
Ticketing: Student will work closely with events staff to track ticketing information for various events.
Event Scoring: Student will work assist scoring company for events.
Event set up and break down: Student will work with events team to curate proper event atmosphere through use of branded banners, inflatables and other marketing tools.
Customer Service and Management: Student will get to work as a site manager for a day during the biggest event of the year - the Junior Olympics and get first hand experience with managing a site location and troubleshooting any issues with guidance.

Training:

The student will have the opportunity to sit in on department meetings if available to learn about the inner workings of a non-profit sports team. The student will work different aspects of an event to better understand how to run a high-level sporting event. Should the student require training with specific Adobe software programs, someone from the Communications department will provide tutorials and be available to answer questions.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to run their own water polo (or sporting) event, produce high-quality sports photography and curate social media content for a sporting team.
