Extraordinary Pictures is the production company founded by filmmaker Natalie Rodriguez. The company is dedicated to creating impactful content across television, film, and digital media. Current projects include:

  • Inner Child (@innerchildmovie) is a psychological horror feature film currently in pre-production.

  • Matty Cat (@matty_cat_2012) is a 2D animated short film about a kitten adjusting to his new home. The sequels, Merry Christmas, Matty Cat, and You Are Irreplaceable, Matty Cat, are currently in festivals.

  • Dumpster Fire, a short film inspired by FX’s The Bear, is also on the festival circuit. The accompanying music video for In a Dumpster Fire is now available.

Position Overview

The intern will assist the Extraordinary Pictures team on various projects currently in development and pre-production. These include:

  • Matty Cat Film Series – The third installment, You Are Irreplaceable, Matty Cat, will debut at Los Angeles Comic Con in September 2025.

  • Beyond the Moonlight – A horror short film set for release in October 2025. Our team needs help with contacting a variety of horror bloggers, cons, and podcasters for interviews and to share updates on the film.

  • Hair Flip – A fantastical family drama feature film, currently in talks with Rita Moreno, with production scheduled for spring 2026.

  • Inner Child – A psychological horror feature film that explores trauma and recovery. Production is set to begin in early 2026, with interest from talent including Felissa Rose, John Karna, Hannah Fierman, James Duval, and Johnathon Schaech.

Extraordinary Pictures is seeking a tech-savvy marketing and public relations intern to assist with the following responsibilities:

  • Drafting and distributing press outreach emails for upcoming film projects

  • Creating and maintaining a press research list (bloggers, vloggers, influencers, and media outlets)

  • Assisting with email outreach under producer supervision

  • Supporting social media promotion strategies

  • Attending select pre-production meetings with the director and producers to take notes

  • (Optional) Creating social media graphics and video content

This internship can offer up to the highest number of academic units, including 3 units (equivalent to 121 hours), depending on your institution's requirements.

Preferred Experience

  • Background or coursework in marketing, public relations, social media, film, or communications

  • Interest in feature film production or careers in agency, publicity, or entertainment management

Intern Responsibilities

  • Research and compile media contact lists

  • Monitor and respond to outreach emails in a professional and timely manner

  • Support social media promotion and possible cold outreach

  • Maintain consistent and clear communication with the production team

  • Track hours and task progress using a shared Google Spreadsheet

Training & Support

Interns will receive mentorship and hands-on experience directly from the director and the producing team. Scheduling is flexible, and all work will be conducted remotely via Zoom and Google Meet.

Please Note: While this internship is fully remote, any potential on-site opportunities—such as assisting during in-person production—would fall under a separate agreement and include compensation. Participation in on-site work is not required as part of the internship program. Academic credit would not be counted for the on-site production opportunity.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this internship, students will have:

  • Gained experience in marketing, public relations, and development within independent film

  • Earned their first feature film credit

  • Developed script coverage and research skills

  • Received consideration for future roles with the Extraordinary Pictures team

Location

Remote – All collaboration will take place online. A shared Google Spreadsheet will be used for tracking tasks and logged hours.
