Health Access Assister (Internship)At — Community Health Initiative of Orange County (CHI OC)
The intern will gain knowledge of Community Health Initiative of Orange County [CHI OC] mission of connecting all children, families and other adults to affordable and quality healthcare and social services.
CHI OC will assist the intern in attaining their college course objectives within the required term.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the vision and goals of CHI OC.
Assist in tracking and reporting Outreach, Enrollment, Retention & Utilization [OERU] data
Communicate effectively and courteously with CHI OC coordinators and staff.
Provides educational health information and screens prospective and current members for health insurance programs and other expanded services within the community.
Support Health Access Assisters [HAA’s] by coordinating and scheduling appointments for prospective and current members
Support our referral program by providing follow up calls, refer to resources as needed and schedule appointments to support families as they enter the healthcare system.
Meets all requirements for confidentiality for internal processes.
Provide support in general event logistics, including decorations, media presentations and registration.
· Organize workload throughout the day to meet project timelines and deadlines.
· Meet attendance and punctuality requirements; report time and attendance accurately.
· Use skill and judgment to ensure written or verbal outputs are clear, accurate, grammatical and of appropriate tone.
· Exercise independent judgment in the resolution of administrative issues.
· Other Development department duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
· Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
· Ability to work both independently and as a team player.
· Must speak, read and write English.
· Bi-lingual in Vietnamese preferred.
COMPUTER & EQUIPMENT SKILLS:
Has good general knowledge of computer operations; uses a keyboard and calculator proficiently and with a high degree of accuracy.
Exceptional knowledge in Microsoft Office Word and Excel as well as Internet and email programs.
Knowledge in Canva is a plus.
Uses typical office equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sits for extended periods of time at a computer station or work desk. Stands and walks throughout the day.
Uses hands and fingers to operate computers and office equipment for a minimum of 2 hours on each scheduled day.
Lifts up to 10 pounds regularly and 25 pounds occasionally.
Exposed to typical office environment conditions and noise levels.
MENTAL AND REASONING REQUIREMENTS:
Uses critical thinking skills to create documents and spreadsheets and interpret information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Able to set goals based on available information and to plan work in order to meet deadlines. Able to project likely future occurrences based on current or historic data.
Able to formulate appropriate responses to requests for services and information from internal or external customers.
OTHER:
Maintains professional behavior, dress and appearance at all times.
Assists with other duties as assigned on a regular or occasional basis.
May travel locally to outreach and enrollment sites and events.
Reliable transportation required.
Must maintain auto insurance in accordance with organization’s policies and provide related records periodically.
Training:
Training includes Health Access Assisters certification, OERU training and BenefitsCal training to complete Medi-Cal, CalFresh, CalWorks and more social services applications. Training for these programs is completed via the California Coverage & Health Initiatives website(https://cchi-haa-program.thinkific.com/courses/health-access-assisters-t...). Once completed, intern will receive certification for completing the Health Access Assister curriculum and may assist clients with general program inquiries.
Outreach Enrollment Retention and Utilization (OERU) is a 2 hour training that provides best practices guidelines to help CACs understand health insurance terms and concepts to be able to educate and inform clients.
BenefitsCal training will also be offered to volunteers. BenefitsCal is an innovative web-based system that facilitates the application process and simultaneously screens families for a variety of public health and social services programs. It acts as a tool for CACs in the process of connecting families in need with appropriate resources and programs available to them. Ultimately, BenefitsCal helps families and the organizations serving those families work more efficiently, make better decisions and use resources wisely.
