Position Overview
We are seeking a talented and motivated Full-Stack AI Applications Development Intern to join our team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies in digital health, focusing on AI-powered applications to improve patient outcomes. As an intern, you will work closely with our engineering and clinical teams to enhance the capabilities of our virtual physical therapy platform.
Responsibilities
- Integrating AI agents into the existing application to enhance interactive physiotherapy experiences
- Leveraging full-stack development to incorporate new features that support application scaling
- Implementing custom Vision-Language Models for real-time exercise feedback and analysis
- Creating automated reporting systems with Python data visualization libraries for patient progress tracking
- Optimizing Python-based backend architecture for improved performance and cross-platform compatibility
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical field.
- Familiarity with frontend and backend programming.
- Familiarity with real-time processing and optimization techniques for deployment on mobile or web platforms.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a detail-oriented approach to tasks.
- Passion for digital health and using technology to improve patient outcomes.
Location and Work Environment
This internship is remote, with a regular online meetings and collaborative working sessions. Expy Health will provide all necessary tools and resources to support the intern's success in this role.

Tasks:
The student will perform the following professional or pre-professional duties:
- Integrate AI Agents into Application: Collaborate with developers to embed intelligent agents capable of providing feedback and guiding users through physiotherapy routines.
- Implement Full-Stack Features: Contribute to frontend and backend codebases to build and enhance user-facing features and backend support systems.
- Design Custom Vision-Language Models: Work with supervised datasets to train and deploy models that interpret user movement and provide live feedback.
- Develop Automated Reporting Tools: Build scripts and dashboards that visualize user performance and track therapy milestones over time.
- Optimize System Architecture: Profile backend components, identify performance bottlenecks, and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and compatibility.
- Participate in Agile Development Cycles: Join sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives to collaborate effectively and align development priorities.
Training:
- Initial orientation covering Expy Health’s mission, values, technology stack, and work practices.
- Weekly One-on-One Mentor Meetings: Scheduled mentorship check-ins to review progress, troubleshoot technical issues, and provide personalized feedback.
- Technical Environment Setup & Codebase Walkthrough: Guided onboarding to the development environment, including repository structure, CI/CD pipeline, and local deployment procedures.
- Full-Stack Framework Training: Hands-on tutorials and documentation covering the specific technologies used (e.g., React/Next.js for frontend, FastAPI/Django for backend, PostgreSQL/NoSQL databases, Docker, etc.).
- Task Contextualization: Each project or task will begin with a briefing to explain its relevance, goals, and dependencies within the broader system.
- DevOps & Deployment Overview: Training on testing, version control (Git), containerization, and cloud deployment processes used in production.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to:
1. Design and integrate AI-driven agents into interactive software applications, with a focus on enhancing user experiences in digital physiotherapy.
2. Apply full-stack development principles to implement scalable features and optimize user interface/backend architecture within a health tech platform.
3. Develop and fine-tune Vision-Language Models (VLMs) for real-time interpretation and analysis of physical movements using Python and relevant AI frameworks.
4. Create automated data visualization tools to track and communicate patient progress, using Python libraries such as Matplotlib, Seaborn, or Plotly.
5. Optimize backend system performance to ensure cross-platform compatibility, responsiveness, and reliability in a production environment.
