Learn and assist dentist with treatment of oral health concerns from patients. Primarily, assisting with preparing operatory for treatment, taking basic vital signs, reviewing patient medical history, being chairside for treatment and cleaning operatory post-treatment using the proper Infection Control protocol

greeting patients and taking vital signs, setting up treatment operatory, seating patient in dental chair, dismissing patient, following precise protocol to disinfect dental operatory and finally, sterilization of equipment.

Client Interaction

        Intern is not left alone with patients. Only occasions could arise when the intern is sitting chairside assisting the doctor. Then, I instruct my employed dental assistant, who is still learning, to reach for an instrument or  material not set up for this patient's particular treatment. And she cannot locate or knows what I am asking for. Then I must go locate what is needed, showing my employee where items are found.

         The goal for Ms. Garcia's learning outcome by the end of her internship is to know the importance of not spreading diseases. A career in Public Health will bring her in contact with ill people.

         Also, learning to communicate with doctor, team members and patients. First we begin with paying attention to detail. Viewing of Infection Control videos for protocol required to achieve Disinfection and Sterilization.

         This must be done between each and every patient. Shadowing doctor with One-on-one questions/answers and observations are constant throughout the work day because every patient is different.
