Physical Therapy InternAt — Yorba Linda Physical Therapy

The Physical Therapy Intern will assist the Physical Therapist and Physical Therapy Aides in implementing therapeutic interventions including: modalities (hot packs, Cold packs, Electrical Stimulation, Traction, Ultrasound, Paraffin), therapeutic exercises and patient education.  Interns will also assist in maintaining a clean and safe clinical environment including clinic organization, laundry, front office assistance as well as greeting and rooming patients. This is a great opportunity for those seeking careeres physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant or medical school.

1. Safe handling of therapeutic modalities (hot/cold packs, paraffin, electrical stimulation)
2. Demonstration and instruction of therapeutic exercises to patients with proper verbal cueing for corrections.
3. Demonstration of understanding of basic health care insurance terminology including copay, coinsurance, deductibles.
4. Maintaining a clean and safe workspace sufficient for a healthcare environment.

Training:

1. Daily instruction and training with current aide staff.
2. Mandatory review of aide training manual.
3. Signing and understanding privacy policies and procedures.
4. Orientation by Director at onset of internship.
5. Opportunity to shadow Licensed Physical Therapist (evaluation, joint mobilization, exercise instruction, gait analysis)

Learning Outcomes: 

1. Learn and be comfortable working in a professional healthcare setting.
2. Be able to communicate effectively and relate with patients of all ages receiving care for physical therapy.
3. Understand the proper and safe usage of therapeutic modalities.
