Youth Navigator Intern \u2013 (Dare 2 Dream & Rebound Academy)At — CSUF - Project Rebound
Youth Navigator Interns support justice-impacted and system-impacted youth as they navigate educational, professional, and personal development pathways. Interns act as near-peer guides, helping youth understand systems such as college enrollment, financial aid, and campus resources, while also assisting with tutoring and mentorship. Interns work in settings including juvenile facilities, high schools, and the CSU Fullerton campus.
This role is part of Project Rebound’s Juvenile Justice Initiatives, which include the Dare 2 Dream in-custody education program and Rebound Academy for community-based youth. Interns serve under the supervision of the Manager of Youth Engagement, working collaboratively with staff, facilitators, and other student leaders to provide meaningful support to youth participants.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Manager of Youth Engagement, interns will:
- Assist youth in navigating education systems (e.g., high school graduation planning, community college/CSU admissions, FAFSA)
- Assist in supporting youth with basic academic tutoring in subjects such as math, English, and history
- Participate in mentoring and building relationships with youth
- Guide youth through professional and college readiness skills such as time management, communication, and goal setting
- Support curriculum-based workshops, discussion circles, and special events
- Help coordinate and participate in campus tours, guest speaker sessions, and college prep activities
- Log attendance and submit brief session notes
- Attend regular check-in meetings and trainings
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold program values in all settings
Training Provided:
- Supervision & Feedback – Interns receive guidance and performance feedback from the Manager of Youth Engagement during and after sessions.
- Professional Development Workshops – Topics include trauma-informed engagement, mentoring, progress note writing, and team collaboration.
- Mentorship & Coaching – Interns will receive individualized support to develop skills in youth engagement, leadership, and systems navigation.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the internship, Youth Navigator Interns will be able to:
- Understand how to support justice-impacted youth in navigating educational and professional systems
- Demonstrate effective communication and trauma-informed mentorship strategies
- Apply knowledge of higher education pathways to help others access resources
- Develop an understanding of the different challenges formerly incarcerated students face when navigating higher education
- Facilitate academic support and group-based activities
- Collaborate with staff, students, and external partners in youth-serving settings
- Reflect on personal and professional growth as a justice- and equity-minded leader.
