Tobacco Use Prevention Program InternAt — County of Orange
TUPP has many volunteer opportunities for individuals who are interested in working on tobacco prevention, education, and cessation activities.
Volunteer opportunities may include the following:
Conducting community research and background work.
Promoting TUPP’s projects at health fairs and community events.
Educating community members on tobacco-related issues and promoting the County of Orange’s free tobacco cessation helpline, 1-866-NEW-LUNG.
Developing and updating media, educational, and promotional materials.
Assisting with clerical work (assembling resource packets, etc.).
Tasks:
Conducting research, creating educational materials, attending coalition and workgroup meetings, promoting cessation services, staffing TUPP booths at community events, conducting educational presentations.
Training:
1. Canva training
2. Notetaker training
3. Data collection trainings
- First day onboarding training that provides an overview of the program, the staff, our funding sources, and workplans
- Compliance training mandated by the OC Health Care Agency for all interns and employees
- Guidance on developing his learning objectives, including providing a sample learning objective plan from a previous intern
- Canva training provided by one of the program supervisors, which will include how to find tobacco prevention and cessation information to create social media posts that support the program’s youth vaping prevention project, @GetitoutOC
- 1:1 check-in meetings (weekly or bi-weekly) with his preceptor to find out the status of his projects and offer support
- Public Health Law Academy online training, for which he can receive a certificate of completion
- Bloomberg School of Public Health Global Tobacco Lecture Online Training, for which he can receive a certificate of completion
- Recorded note-taking training provided by one of our Health Educators, to help interns understand how to take meeting minutes correctly during staff, coalition, and workgroup meetings
- There might also be some data collection trainings, including for park observation surveys and tobacco litter clean ups at local parks, which support our State workplan
Learning Outcome:
1. Create social media posts using Canva to promote the youth vaping prevention campaign.
2. Conduct data collection activities, such as tobacco litter clean ups.
3. Promote the County's 1-866-NEW-LUNG cessation helpline.
