Legal InternAt — Law Offices of Raissa D. Rivas
This is a summer internship that provides exposure to law-related fields and other closely related majors. The approximate dates of the internship program are June to August 2025. Duties may include participating in legal seminars and assignments, touring courthouses, shadowing lawyers during legal hearings, participating in group exercises, projects, and internal meetings, training in legal research and writing, and other duties as assigned related to interns areas of interest.
At least 2 weeks are required for in-person training; the position is flexible to remote work, which requires weekly Zoom meetings if not located in Las Vegas, NV, USA. If you are located in Las Vegas, meetings are required in person.
Tasks:
The Intern will be shadowing Attorney in Court, will be working hands-on with humanitarian cases, such as Asylum, victims of violent crimes (T Visa and U Visas), and reliefs for unaccompanied minors, such as Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS). The Intern will be also in charge of researching changes in laws, government policies, and regulations in support of the cases and trials that will take place. The Intern will also be researching the country conditions, such as climate change and government corruption that have impacted these changes, of each native country of immigrant clients and show how these conditions have resulted in forced migration.
Training:
The Intern will have a two-week in person orientation/training, then the rest of the internship will be hybrid. If the intern is located in Las Vegas, NV, the meetings are in person. Otherwise, they will be via zoom.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to expand their knowledge in the immigration field and understand more thoroughly why people immigrate to the United States. The student will learn that many of the actions in the United States negatively impact other countries, which will hopefully inspire internal changes and more empathy for those who are forced to migrate.
