Marketing InternAt — Santa Ana Active Streets

Opportunity Summary 

The Marketing Intern will support the SAAS team in updating SAAS branding and messaging publicizing SAAS activities to the general public. The Marketing Intern will be responsible for making lasting connections with and between community members, community-based organizations, public agencies, schools, churches, parent centers, businesses, and key stakeholders in support of Santa Ana Active Streets program offerings throughout Santa Ana and nearby communities through digital and in-person outreach content. The Intern is expected to attend regular weekly meetings, as needed.

Tasks:

Director + Program Coordination Check In (10%):
In collaboration with Project Director and Advisory Council Members, manage and coordinate programs, events, activities, and planning meetings.
Manage calendar of events
Support in organizing logistics required for community activities and events, coalition meetings, retreats, partner meetings, including, but not limited to, gathering and prepping materials for upcoming events, creating outreach materials, printing, and coordinating with partners.
Identify outreach strategy for contractors for program support.
Provide recommendations, alterations and improvements to marketing for Program implementation and development.
Collect and analyze program evaluation data, including participation, participant pre- and post-program questionnaires, etc.

Administration (5%):
Program compliance and document maintenance, e.g., general, and specialized insurance, data reporting requirements, generating reports, uploading and upkeeping data tracking.

Development / Communications (60%):
Work closely with team members in the development of organization info sheets for new grant proposals and opportunities.
Create, manage, and distribute an e-newsletter.
Maintain SAAS Contact Lists
Create flyers for in-person outreach activities and social media distribution.
Develop and update marketing strategy with Project Director
Post on SAAS social media, including Instagram, Linked In , and Facebook; creating new channels when necessary.
Manage website updates, social media messages and content and ensure all current and upcoming events are accurate and up to date.
Adapt content to language needs (e.g., English, Spanish, Vietnamese)
Coordinate, organize, and attend community outreach events (i.e. boothing/tabling at community events)
Create an organized calendar of events and educational materials
Draft media announcements and press releases

Volunteer recruitment and management (15%):
Create outreach flyers to recruit volunteers, bicycle instructors, and potential members to serve in one of the coalition’s committees or service-oriented activities.
Create outreach content for program committee meetings to engage volunteers and foster their development as potential leaders.
Support to track volunteer hours
Support to coordinate volunteers to participate in SAAS programs and to develop new programs based on volunteer ideas, including, but not limited to, confirm completion of all volunteer required documents, maintaining tracking system of volunteer participation for events, and maintaining regular communication with volunteers when needed.
Manage the volunteer database

Operations/Leadership (10%):
Manage inventory of materials and equipment; work with Project Director on placing orders for additional materials equipment
Attend required staff, one-on-one meetings, training, and other events to support the mission of SAAS.
Work closely with team members to represent SAAS at existing partner events, activities and assist with the development of new strategic collaborations.
Manage relationships with community partners with SAAS's mission and strategic vision in mind.
In support of the advisory council, the marketing intern will work with the Project Director and relevant staff to create data reports to be delivered at advisory council meetings.
Attend advisory board meetings and retreats, as needed.
Attend staff meetings, as needed
Attend sector conferences and trainings, as needed.

Training:

Intern will receive an introductory orientation with staff and advisory board to get familiar with organizational history, mission, and vision. Intern will meet weekly with the Project Director to create working goals and objectives. Opportunities to job shadow will be presented, depending on intern learning interests. Intern will receive mentorship on post graduate job opportunities in nonprofits.

Learning Outcome:

1. By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to learn about grass roots coalition building, advocacy, community engagement, and active transportation in Santa Ana.
2. By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to create and coordinate an effective marketing & community outreach strategy
3. By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to gain familiarity with the Santa Ana community or communities with similar transportation, health, and social challenges.
