Job Title: Occupational Health and Safety Consultant
Reports to: Senior Compliance Consultant
Job Type: Full or part time
Location: Orange County
Position Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Occupational Health and Safety Consultant to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of workplace safety programs and training across our organization. This role focuses heavily on employee training, compliance audits, and risk prevention strategies to ensure compliance with OSHA, state and federal regulations, and internal policies.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Program Development
- Assess workplace hazards and recommend practical control measures
- Develop and update written safety programs (e.g., Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, Ergonomics)
- Ensure company practices comply with OSHA, EPA, CDC, and applicable industry-specific standards
- Support development of emergency response plans (fire, chemical spill, workplace violence, etc.)
Training & Education
- Design and deliver safety training programs (classroom, virtual, and hands-on) for employees
- Develop training materials, manuals, job aids, and quizzes
- Conduct onboarding safety orientations for new hires
- Maintain accurate training records and certifications
- Evaluate training effectiveness through observation, feedback, and refresher tracking
- Ensure site-specific and annual refresher training is completed and documented
Audits, Inspections & Risk Assessments
- Perform regular safety inspections and hazard assessments at client sites
- Identify potential risks and recommend corrective actions
- Assist with industrial hygiene assessments and environmental monitoring (e.g., air, noise, chemical exposure)
Incident Response & Reporting
- Support incident investigations and root cause analysis
- Maintain incident logs and regulatory reporting documentation
- Develop recommendations to prevent recurrence of incidents
Client Communication & Consultation
- Serve as subject matter expert for client safety inquiries and projects
- Provide consulting services on safety program implementation and culture-building initiatives
- Attend safety committee meetings as needed
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Environmental Science, or related field
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and ANSI standards
- Experience designing and delivering employee training
- Strong report writing and communication skills
Preferred:
- Professional certifications such as CSP, CHST, OHST, CIH, or ASP
- Experience with safety in [Insert Industry: e.g., healthcare, construction, manufacturing]
- Adult learning/instructional design experience
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
Working Conditions
- Travel to client locations (25–50%, varies by role)
- May include site walkthroughs, use of PPE, and work in various indoor/outdoor environments
- Occasional after-hours support during incidents or training events
