Teaching assistant duties include being available to students who need assistance with preparing for exams, answering student questions regarding logistics, technical issues, and course content. The TA may hold additional office hours during exam weeks and/or lead review sessions. The TA will assist in preparing review content for exams, grade quizzes, assignments, exams, and essays, including term papers. The TA will provide support to the instructor's duties, as well as student inquiries.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to proficienctly develop course review content, lead and support students, practice teamwork and collaboration, apply critical thinking and creativity according to student demand, problem solve while adhering to efficient time management, and effectively utilize research techniques.
Training
To help the student achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will guide and train the student on the academic and technical process of preparing course content and review material for students, train the student on effective communication and leadership inside and outside of the classroom, delineate and demonstrate the grading rubrics for upper division psychology written assignments until the student is able to do so independently, provide research tasks that are scaffolded according to the progressing difficulty of the course, and allow the student to adapt increasing levels of responsibility as the course advances through the 16 weeks.
Tasks/Duties
The intern will demonstrate the learning outcomes by holding office hours and review sessions to help students with questions. The intern will provide individual support to students, particularly during times of high-stress, developing their ability to lead, communicate effectively, and build rapport with students. The student will effectively asses student performance by grading assignments and exams, and provide constructive feedback to students, strengthening their collaborative ability with the professor and other faculty when necessary. The intern will also take on problem-solving tasks in aiding the professor with classroom management techniques and organizing group extra credit opportunities and make-up exams.
