Wee People Playschool - Community Services Aide.

Community Services Aide that oversees children ages 2.5 – 5 years old. Staff will assist the classroom by prepping worksheets and crafts. Staff will assist the children with worksheets and crafts and help introduce them to letters, numbers, sight words, shapes, etc.

Tasks:

• Supervise the children during all activities ensuring safety and positive interactions.
• Sit with and support children during academic time and provide guidance
• Help children transition between activities by using songs and verbal prompts.
• Observe and report any signs of illness, injury, or distress to the supervisor immediately.
• Perform basic cleaning tasks such as sanitizing toys, tables, and classroom materials.
• Use positive guidance techniques such as redirection, offering choices, and using calm, respectful communication. 
• Recognize and respond appropriately to children’s emotions and individual needs.  Model empathy, patience, and kindness in all interactions.
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with teaching staff, asking questions and requesting feedback when unsure.
• Assist with classroom setup and end-of-day cleaning routines (e.g., organizing shelves, wiping surfaces, resetting activity centers).

Training:

To support the intern in achieving the stated learning outcomes, the supervisor will implement a structured, supportive, and interactive training approach. This will include a combination of direct instruction, guided practice, observational learning, reflective discussions, and regular feedback. (CPR, First Aide, One on one training)

Learning Outcomes:

• By the end of the internship, the student will be able to lead and demonstrate understanding of typical and atypical development for children ages 2.5 – 5 years.
• She should be able to identify developmental milestone and apply to daily activities.
• She should be able to apply positive guidance strategies to support social emotional development and appropriate behavior and be able to give guidance to those that struggle with behavior.
