Opportunity Summary 

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Employee Benefits Intern to join our Employee Benefits Division. This internship offers hands-on experience in the insurance and benefits industry, providing exposure to client service, benefits analysis, and compliance support. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, organized, and able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

  • Current student or recent graduate pursuing a degree in Business, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Tasks:

Key Responsibilities

Assist with preparing and reviewing employee benefits materials, including presentations and plan comparisons.

Support client service teams with enrollment, renewal, and compliance tasks.

Conduct research on benefits trends, carriers, and plan design strategies.

Update and maintain internal trackers, databases, and reporting tools.

Collaborate with account managers and analysts to ensure accurate and timely deliverables.

Participate in team meetings, trainings, and client-related projects.

Training:

Training & Reporting Structure
As an Employee Benefits Intern, you will report directly to a Benefits Manager who will provide guidance, mentorship, and regular feedback throughout the internship. Training will be conducted in a hybrid format:

In-Person Training – Hands-on sessions in the office to walk through benefits materials, client deliverables, and internal processes. This includes shadowing meetings, reviewing real client cases, and learning how our systems and tools are used day-to-day.

Virtual Training (via Microsoft Teams) – Scheduled check-ins, training modules, and project reviews to reinforce learning and ensure flexibility. You will also participate in team meetings and collaborate on projects remotely.

Ongoing Support – Weekly one-on-one check-ins with your Benefits Manager and access to the broader Employee Benefits team for project collaboration and mentorship.

This blended training approach is designed to provide you with both practical, real-world exposure and the flexibility to work in a hybrid environment.

Learning outcome:

Understanding of Employee Benefits Programs – Gain knowledge of medical, dental, vision, life, and disability plans, as well as how they are structured and communicated to employees.

Exposure to Carrier & Client Relationships – Learn how brokers interact with carriers and clients to negotiate renewals, resolve issues, and provide strategic benefits solutions.

Benefits Compliance Fundamentals – Develop an understanding of key compliance requirements (e.g., ERISA, ACA, COBRA, CalSavers) and why they are critical for employers.

Analytical & Presentation Skills – Build skills in reviewing claims/utilization data, comparing plan designs, and preparing professional presentations for clients.

Professional Communication & Team Collaboration – Learn how to work in a client-service environment, manage timelines, and communicate effectively with both internal teams and external partners.
