Sustainability Intern STARS Report 2025-2026At — CSUF - Administration and Finance
Opportunity Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Sustainability and Transportation Demand Manager, the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Sustainability Tracking and Rating System (STARS) Intern will have an immersive sustainability learning experience and form connection with campus partners in all academic and operational divisions throughout Cal State Fullerton. The Intern will assist with gathering and summarizing data regarding CSUF's sustainability efforts in academic curriculum, research, water, energy, waste, procurement, landscape, food, transportation, and other areas.
Tasks:
- Drafting data requests that are concise, professional, and effective.
- Thoughtfully, confidently, and professionally providing ideas and responding to others' ideas at team meetings.
- Being fluent in the sustainability status, challenges, achievements, and goals of CSUF's academic and operational departments and projects.
Training:
- Provide training and background in AASHE STARS and the CSU Sustainability Policy as well as Fullerton Forward Objective 4.1, Strategy 5, Progress Indicator 4.
- Guide and oversee diverse campus stakeholder communications and information requests.
- Facilitate weekly team meetings to discuss the campus sustainability assessment, as well as brainstorm and refine ideas for campus sustainability innovation and improvement.
- Facilitate one-on-one meetings to support a positive work and learning environment, and to ensure that professional and academic development goals are being met.
Learning Outcomes:
- Confidently and appropriately interact, both in person and in writing with higher education faculty, administrators, staff, and students to request information and to explain how the requested information helps CSUF meet CSU Sustainability Policy requirements and Fullerton Forward Strategic Plan goals.
- Become an experienced and effective driver of campus sustainability assessment, innovation, and improvement.
- Be better equipped to compete in the emerging \\Green Jobs\\ workforce and solve sustainability and climate challenges.
