By the end of the internship, the student will be able to understand the role of a Community School Coordinator, support school and family engagement efforts, and apply professional skills in communication, organization, and program coordination. Interns will shadow and assist with projects such as parent workshops, student support initiatives, and community partnerships. Training will include an initial orientation, weekly mentorship check-ins, and regular feedback to help the student reflect and grow throughout the experience.
Tasks:
Shadow and assist with planning family workshops, student programs, and engagement events.
Support communication efforts through parent outreach, flyers, and resource updates.
Observe and take notes in meetings, followed by debriefs to discuss outcomes.
Assist with collecting and organizing survey or needs assessment data.
Help maintain records of community partnerships and school-based programs.
Participate in outreach to families and partners to strengthen engagement.
Training:
The intern will start with an orientation to go over the role, expectations, and school procedures. Throughout the internship, they will shadow and take part in meetings, workshops, and outreach activities with regular guidance. We will check in weekly to review progress, answer questions, and talk through what they’re learning. After larger events or meetings, we will debrief together so the intern can reflect on key takeaways and receive feedback.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to understand the role of a Community Schools Coordinator and how schools, families, and community partners work together to support student success. The intern will gain experience observing family engagement activities, student programs, and community outreach efforts. They will also learn how data and needs assessments guide services and resources for students and families. This internship provides practical exposure to communication, organization, and collaboration in a school-community setting.
