Veterans Justice Outreach intern and shadowing opportunity.
• Observe individual and co-lead group opportunities to teach Veterans how to identify and combat negative self-talk and overcome fears by providing an environment that allows Veterans to share their experiences.
• Work collaboratively on a team with peers, community providers, VA Long Beach psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, doctors and nurses to assist Veterans’ needs.
• Assist to organize socialization events to bring knowledge of community resources and fellowship to Veterans in justice programs, that enhance community reintegration.
• Assist in assessing Veterans’ strengths and explore their interests and options for making improvements in life functioning areas such as housing, employment, relationships, and community engagement to support them in successful completion of Veterans Treatment Court.
• Help connect Veterans to recovery support community resources.
• Co-lead various groups to address justice involved Veterans needs to include but not limited to support groups, living skills groups, socialization groups and moral recognition therapy groups.
• Collaboration with Supervisor and Veterans to develop and implement personal wellness and recovery plans and liaise with clinicians to offer feedback on what has been observed to help improve veterans treatment plans.
