Opportunity Summary 

The student will be involved with various studio assistant activities involving the casting of hot glass, charging glass into the furnace, mold making, cutting and polishing glass, glassblowing and solid working, studio maintenance and cleaning.

Learning Outcomes  

By the end of the internship, the student will be able to assist a professional artist in the creation of sculpture, the maintenance of a glass studio and equipment, the building and pouring of molds, assisting in the creation of blown and solid worked components for sculpture, and the cleaning of a glassblowing studio.

Training  

To help the student achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will explain the needs of my assistants per each individual project, the details of collaborative techniques involved in hot cast and solid worked glass sculpture, and delegate responsibility based on the needs of each project, and train each assistant in the techniques necessary for their role.

Tasks/Duties  

The intern will demonstrate the learning outcomes by functioning as a unit within a collaborative team environment. Focussing on existing skills sand learning new ones, the student will broaden their understanding of the creation of glass sculpture. The intern will be involved in and not limited to the casting of hot glass, charging glass into the furnace, mold making, cutting and polishing glass, glassblowing and solid working, studio maintenance and cleaning.
