Youth Development InternAt — Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson
Our Club is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization serving over 850 kids after school each day across 9 locations in Carson and South Los Angeles - Compton and Watts.
The Club relies upon regular and consistent interns to serve as Youth Development Professional Interns. YDP’s plan, implement, supervise and evaluate activities with youth ages 6 through 18 years of age in the areas of Arts & Crafts, Leadership Development and Sports.
As a YDP Inten, you could teach a weekly art class, coach a dozen middle school youth basketball, mentor a teen through the college application process or tutor a 3rd grader in reading, for example.
The Club welcomes interns with unique interests. Depending on a location’s needs and the interest of youth, often YDP interns are able to start their own weekly activity.
Tasks:
Provide daily homework and tutoring assistance for members.
Address concerns, questions, issues of parents and or teachers.
Support in preparing weekly and monthly schedules of activities.
Maintain members order and discipline by managing members’ behavior; reinforces rules of the club and all the recreational areas.
Training:
Student will attend an intern orientation prior to attending the site, complete a Boys & Girls Clubs of America training, and shadow Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson staff on site.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to:
-Promote and stimulate program participation
-Provide guidance and role modeling to members
-Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the unit at all times
